  • School Trends - knitwear price reduction

    Thu 20 Jun 2024

    Please see the message below from School Trends regarding reduced price knitwear;

Due to an over order with container stock, we now have excess knitwear stock, therefore, we have significantly reduced these garments by almost half, at a loss to simply help clear space in our warehouse as we enter the busy crazy summer season.

Once the stock has sold through, the prices will go back to normal.

  • Sports Day Arrangements - rearranged date Wednesday 12th June 2024

Wed 22 May 2024 Laura Morris

Sports Day Information- Wednesday 12th June 2024

    Dear Parents/ Carers

On Wednesday 12th June we are holding our sports day. This year our sports day will be split into two parts. If you are able to support our school in walking down to the sports field in the afternoon, please let Mrs Yates know.

    Morning 10am- 12.00pm

During the morning we will be taking part in a round robin event on our school acre. The events in the morning will be linked to our well-being wheel and have a mental health focus. The morning will allow the children to participate in a variety of different sports throughout the morning. This will include activities such as sitting volley ball, tri golf activity, yoga, gymnastics and a race involving the timber trail and scooters. The children will go around in mixed year groups with siblings being grouped together. You are warmly welcomed to come and watch these events.

Lunch You are invited to bring a picnic and picnic rug to share with your child on our field from 12.00pm. Please make sure your lunches do not include any nuts.

    Afternoon

The children will then be walking down to Broughton Sports Field with West Tytherley Primary School. The afternoon will start at 1.30pm and will be finished by 3.30pm.  There will be more competitive races in the afternoon that the children are invited to take part in.  There will be a short race, long race and a relay race. Children not wishing to participate, or for whom it may cause undue anxiety will be able to play a supporting role in cheering on their team.

What your child needs to wear and bring on the day   Please send your child to school in their school P.E kit- black shorts and their house colour t-shirt. They will not need to bring any book bags in on this day. We are hoping that the weather will be sunny, so please make sure your child is ‘sun ready’ with sun cream applied in the morning, a hat and water bottle.

At the sports field Please bring a chair or picnic blanket to sit on and sit within the boundaries set out. The children will be sat under gazebos in their house teams.

We are encouraging the children to take part and enjoy their afternoon. We would ask that you don’t encourage your children to come over to you throughout the afternoon, there are lots of adults on hand to support them.

End of day arrangements Class teachers will be dismissing the children from the sports field at 3.30pm. Late birds will be running as normal, the children will be walked back to school after 3.30pm.

We hope you are able to join us for all or part of this fun day.

    Kind Regards

    Miss Morris

  • Weather Warning - Friday 18th February 2022

Thu 17 Feb 2022 Lucy Macey

    17 February 2022

    Dear Parents

We are writing to you following the many queries received from parents today regarding the opening of both schools tomorrow in response to the weather warnings issued for Hampshire.

As the local authority states, the decision to close a school is for local management and made by the Headteacher based on conditions at the school and the health and safety of staff and pupils.

We will be open tomorrow unless we receive notification from the Local Authority recommending closure or if the forecast significantly changes overnight.

However, we fully appreciate the concerns from many families regarding their journeys to and from school tomorrow.

If parents deem it too dangerous to travel tomorrow we fully support this decision and these absences will be authorised.

There will be resources for home learning on Google Classrooms.

We will of course assess the school site and make it as safe as possible, although the direction and strength of the forecast winds is difficult to predict. The children who do attend will be kept indoors throughout the day.

We are sorry that we are unable to clarify the situation further but are sure you appreciate the difficulties facing us all during a time of such extreme and unusual weather conditions.

We would like to thank all of our parents and carers for their understanding at this challenging time and say how much we appreciate the messages of support we have received for the very difficult decisions we are making.

    Yours sincerely

    Lucy Macey

  • Warn and Inform Letter from UKHSA

    Wed 12 Jan 2022

                                                                                            12th January 2022

Advice to All Parents - warn and inform

Please note that this is the letter that we have been given by the DFE and all the advice contained comes from them. If you have been given conflicting advice or are unable to follow this (e.g. re LFD testing) please continue as you have been. We do understand that it can be difficult to get hold of tests at present.

    Dear Parents,

We have been advised that there has been confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the school.

We appreciate that you may find this concerning so we are continuing to monitor the situation and are providing the following advice. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

    What are we already doing?

When relevant, students and staff who have tested positive are isolating. The children who are identified as contacts of the confirmed cases will have guidance from NHS Test and Trace.

Those aged five and above will be advised to take daily LFD tests before attending school for a period of 7 days. Outbreak control measures are also in place within the school and being kept under review.

    If your child is well

The school remains open. If your child remains well, they can continue to attend school as normal. We will keep this under review.

In addition to daily LFD testing for close contacts, we encourage household members aged 11 and over to continue with twice weekly LFD testing to help identify cases promptly.

If you think your child is a close contact but has not been contacted directly by NHS Test and Trace, then we would advise they undertake daily LFD tests for a period of 7 days. This advice applies to children aged 5 and over. Whilst daily testing for 7 days is your choice, it is strongly encouraged as it helps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in your community. (LFD tests are available via community testing sites, local pharmacies or you can order online for home delivery).

If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19 or tests positive for COVID-19

If your child develops symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), they should get a PCR test (https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or call 119) and remain at home at least until the result is known and they are fever free (without medication) for at least 24 hours.

    • If negative, the child can end self-isolation and return to school once well;
    • If positive, the child should isolate as a positive case (see below)

People who test positive for COVID-19 should self-isolate at home until they are well (48 hours fever free) and either:

    1. 10 full days have passed, or
    2. They have produced two negative LFD tests at least 24 hours apart, with the first taken no earlier than day 6.

Note: Lingering coughs and changes to smell/taste are not a sign of ongoing infectiousness, so children can return to school if they have ended their self-isolation period (see above).

If your child does not have symptoms, count the day they took the test as day 0. If they subsequently develop symptoms, they will need to restart their isolation period using the day symptoms developed as day 0.

You can seek advice on COVID-19 symptoms from the nhs.uk website. If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111

Instructions for people who live in the same household as someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or is symptomatic and awaiting a test result

NHS Test and Trace will contact you to check whether you are legally required to self-isolate. If you are not legally required to self-isolate, you will be provided with advice on testing, advised to take extra caution, and given guidance on preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Those who are clinically extremely vulnerable should be supported to minimise their contact with other people in the household during this period, regardless of whether others have symptoms or not.

You are not required to self-isolate if any of the following apply:

    • You are fully vaccinated
    • You are below the age of 18 years 6 months
    • You have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial
    • You are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons

Fully vaccinated means that you have been vaccinated with an MHRA approved COVID-19 vaccine in the UK, and at least 14 days have passed since you received the recommended doses of that vaccine (note this is currently under review and may be updated to include a booster dose in due course).

In line with national guidance for households with Covid-19 infection, household and other close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 should undertake daily LFD testing for a period of 7 days or for 10 days from their last contact with the positive case (whichever is first). This is recommended for all close contacts aged 5 and over who are not required to isolate. (LFD tests are available via community testing sites, local pharmacies or you can order online for home delivery).

You are required to self-isolate if you’re aged over 18 years and 6 months and if any of the following apply:

    • You have received only one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine
    • You have not received any dose of the COVID-19 vaccination
    • You are not otherwise exempt

Household members who need to self-isolate as close contacts should not go to work, school or public areas, and exercise should be taken within the home. You should ask friends or family if you require help with buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, or walking a dog. Alternatively, you can order your shopping online and medication by phone or online. Please read the stay at home guidance which provides information on this.

Household members staying at home for 10 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community.

You could be fined if you do not self-isolate following a notification by NHS Test and Trace. You may be entitled to a one-off payment of £500 through the NHS Test and Trace Support Payment scheme if you are required to stay at home and self-isolate, or you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate.

How to reduce spread of COVID-19 as a household contact who is not required to self-isolate

Even if you are vaccinated, you can still be infected with COVID-19 and pass it on to others. If you are identified as a contact of someone with COVID-19 but you are not required to self-isolate, you can help protect others by following the guidance on how to stay safe and help prevent the spread.

To reduce the spread of COVID-19 in your community:

    • Test daily using LFDs
    • Limit close contact with other people outside your household, especially in enclosed spaces (when not in school)
    • Wear a face covering for those aged 11 and over in crowded, enclosed or poorly ventilates spaces and when you are in close contact with other people
    • Limit contact with anyone who is at higher risk of severe illness if infected with Covid-19
    • Follow the guidance on how to stay safe and help prevent the spread - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

You should follow this advice for at least 10 days.

If you are a health or social care worker or student undertaking a work placement who has been identified as a household contact and are exempt from self-isolation, there is additional guidance available that you should follow to reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19 in these settings.

If you develop symptoms at any time, even if these are mild, self-isolate immediately, arrange to have a COVID-19 PCR test and follow the guidance for people with COVID-19 symptoms.

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

How to stop coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with coronavirus (COVID-19):

    • Get vaccinated – everyone aged 12 and over can book COVID-19 vaccination appointments now
    • Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitiser regularly throughout the day
    • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
    • Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
    • Meet people outside and avoid crowded areas
    • Open doors and windows to let in fresh air if meeting people inside
    • Wear a face covering if aged 11 and over when it's hard to stay away from other people – particularly indoors or in crowded places
    • Participate in twice weekly LFD testing following national guidelines (recommended for 11 years and over). We encourage you to log your results here: https://www.gov.uk/log-test-site-covid19-results

    Further Information

Further information is available at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

    Yours sincerely

  • COVID cases in school

    Mon 13 Dec 2021

    Dear Parents,

Sadly due to the number of COVID cases in school (please see attached letter) we are in now in the position where we need to minimise contact between groups and avoid large gatherings of children and parents.  Please see below for details:

    Daily routine

Only children to enter school side gate in the morning.  Please wait for your children at the front of school at the end of the day.  Squirrels parents please use font entrance again in the morning and afternoon.

Children will play in class groups for this week.

Lunches to continue in classrooms including Christmas dinner.

    Christmas arrangements

We will not be holding the Carol Service or the End of Term Celebration Assembly.

We would be grateful if you can read all the communication carefully and we will keep you updated with any advice from the DfE and UKHSA.

    Kind Regards

  • Reading Letter

Fri 17 Sep 2021 Miss Ayers

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Reading is a passport to the world and the benefits of reading open children up to ideas, experiences, places and times they might never otherwise experience in real life. Every child deserves the chance to become a reader and research shows that children who enjoy reading achieve well right across the curriculum.

With this in mind, a few events have been organised this half term to kick off the academic year with reading at the forefront of our learning and we hope you will support us in promoting the joy of reading:

    • Broughton Reading Breakfast – Every Friday morning, beginning the 24th September, children are invited into school early with their parent to share a book together and have breakfast. From 8:15am every week, you can enter the school through the side gate and come into the hall via the playground where there will be refreshments on offer and a chance to experience the joy of reading together. If your parent cannot attend, you are still more than welcome to come along.
    • Book Club – Our Literacy Ambassador, Annabel Henville, will be planning and delivering weekly book clubs with groups of children. This half term, Annabel will be working with Year 3 children on Mondays where they will read ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ by Tom McLaughlin and on Fridays, a group of Year 6 children will be reading Ross Welford’s ‘When We Got Lost in Dreamland’ together. These groups will be changed every half term to provide as many children as possible the opportunity to collectively share a story.
    • Lunchtime Book Club – Miss Ayers invites any avid readers to join her in Badgers’ classroom from 12:30-1:00pm on a Wednesday lunchtime, starting Wednesday 22nd September, where children can come along and get lost in stories. As well as reading, we will discuss the books we read and write reviews for them so that we can recommend them to others.
    • Book Swap – On Friday 8th October, children are invited to bring in any of their old books to exchange for exciting new reads. This is a simple and sustainable way for the children to exchange books that they have already read and in return, receive brand-new reading material at no cost.
    • Reading is Magic Festival – Running from 27th September – 1st October 2021, this five-day festival has a great line up of writers, illustrators and poets. We, at school, will be taking part in some of their online workshops but check out the Children’s Literature Festival website for details of other upcoming events: https://bathfestivals.org.uk/childrens-literature/whats-on/

We hope that one or more of the events above takes your child’s interest. Developing a love of reading is a priority for us at Broughton Primary School and installing this passion is our aim from when children first join us in Squirrels, all the way through to their last moments with us in Badgers.

    Happy reading!

    Miss Ayers

  • Return to School – Autumn Term 2021 – Thursday 2nd September (Squirrels – Monday 6th September)

Fri 27 Aug 2021 Lucy Macey

    Dear Parents,

I hope that you have had a wonderful summer break and that the weather has not prevented you from enjoying the holidays. We are looking forward to welcoming all of the children back to school on Thursday. The following information may be helpful for your planning and preparation.

    Practical Arrangements

    Start of the day

We will be welcoming back all children from Years 1 to 6 on Thursday 2nd September. All the children will need to be in school for registration by 8.50 a.m., in order to start lessons at 9 a.m. The Squirrels children will start on Monday 6th September.

    Please use the following entrances:

Squirrels – up the main drive and through Squirrels side gate

Otters – through side gate and into their classroom via the Otters outside area.

Foxes – through the side gate and into their classroom via the ‘normal’ entrance.

Badgers – up the main drive and through the fire doors.

The children will need to wash their hands before coming into school.  We would ask that parents and children social distance as they wash hands and enter the building. Please can we ask that, where possible, only one person drops off per family and that you do not linger and talk in the carparks.

There is now no legal requirement to wear a face covering, however please do take any precautions that you feel most comfortable with.  We know that everyone has different situations and the most important thing is to stay safe.

We cannot admit adults to the buildings at the present time without a prior appointment. If you need to speak to a member of staff, please phone or email the office or speak to the member of staff to arrange a suitable time.

    Lunchtime

The full menu will be on offer from the kitchen (the options will change after half-term) and will start on week 2. Alternatively the children are welcome to bring packed lunch from home.  The fruit scheme will continue for children in Years R, 1 and Year 2. Children in Foxes and Badgers should bring in their own healthy snack. The tuck shop will not be open.

    Equipment

Your children will need the correct school uniform, a water bottle, to wear school P.E kit on the day it is time tabled and a coat appropriate for the weather.

They may bring in bags, and lockers will be in use.

    P.E days

Children will need to wear their P.E kit to school on the following days.

    Badgers – Wednesday and Friday

    Foxes – Monday and Wednesday

    Otters – Monday and Tuesday

    Squirrels – Monday and Thursday

    End of the day

Children in Squirrels will leave at 3.30pm through the carpark

Children in Otters class will leave at 3.30pm through the side gate.

Children in Foxes class will leave at 3.30pm through the side gate.

Children in Badgers class will leave at 3.30pm through the fire door on the main drive.

    Clubs

We will start clubs on the week commencing Monday 6th September

A full list will be available on Thursday 2nd September which your child will bring home.

Diary Dates for the term will be available on the calendar via the website

    Communication to School

Please direct all communications through the school office and not directly to the teacher’s emails. We will ensure that all messages are delivered as they were pre lockdown. Thank you for your co-operation with this.

    Important Considerations

Please be aware that we are trying very hard to get back to “normal” and we want to re-introduce all the usual activities and parental contact as soon as possible.  As ever, after a period where we have been apart we want to minimise the risks that the start of a new term can bring.  Please help us in the following ways:

    • Continue to test, twice weekly using rapid flow tests.
    • To keep children at home if they are feeling unwell.  Even if they don’t have COVID-19 symptoms or their COVID-19 test is negative, they may still have an illness which could be passed on to other people.

    Kind regards

    Lucy Macey

  • End of Term of Events

    Wed 16 Jun 2021

    Dear Parents,

Following the recent Government announcements and guidance from Hampshire County Council we are now able to confirm the arrangements for the end of term.

Sports Day will take place, with the children staying in their classes, however, we will not be able to host parents, this year.

We will record the school production for all Badgers Class parents, and give everyone a copy.

The Leavers assembly will take place outside, with Year 6 parents in attendance ( max 2 per family)

The children will also have an end of term assembly, outside, where we will award cups. We will not be able to host parents at this event.

We have made these arrangements at a time where COVID cases are still on the increase and we need to continue to safeguard all children, families and staff. I know that these events are very popular with parents, however, we need to put these protective measures in place. Our cluster schools in the state sector are also operating in this way.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to speak to me

    Kind regards

    Lucy Macey
