Otters

Welcome to Otters!

Welcome to Otters Class, we are the Year 1/2 class in Broughton Primary School.

The adults in our class are:

Miss Morris and Mrs Cantelo

Take a look at our classroom, we are lucky enough to have an outdoor area which we enjoy doing a variety of different things in:

Our School day

In the morning we come in, read and sign up for our lunches on an Ipad. After this we do Guided Reading in small groups. The rest of the morning includes Phonics, Literacy and Maths.

In the afternoon we do a variety of exciting things such as making our own Top Gear cars, creating Christmas cupcakes and taking part in P.E lessons.

These are our working walls that help us when we get stuck.

Homework

Homework is given out once a week on a Friday.

It tests:

1. Spellings that we have been learning during the week in our Phonics session.

2. Maths facts that we have learnt in Maths during the week (such as doubles, halves, number bonds)

The homework is then tested on a Thursday in small groups. Merits are awarded accordingly and there is a homework club to support those who need extra help.

Here is an example of our homework:

Other home activities include:

-Reading: at least 3 times a week to an adult

- Year 2 times tables challenge books, which involve the children working towards their bronze, silver or gold book.

You are all superstars!! Final week of home learning!! - week commencing Monday 20th July 2020

Internet Safety

Here is a list of websites that could support a discussion about internet safety:

This website is really good, it has videos and games to talk about the dangers of the internet. It can be done by the child on their own and then the child and adult together

https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/4_7/4-5-year-olds/

This website has some good talking points

This website has some good top tips to go through with your child and you can also create a cool avatar.

Class Charter

This year we created our own class charter which we all signed up to. It includes the UNICEF convention on the Rights of the Child.

Is your child due to start primary school in September 2021 - if you would like to arrange a meeting with Mrs Macey please call the school office to arrange a time.
