School Governor
We currently have exciting opportunities for individuals to join the governing body of the Federation of Broughton and West Tytherley Primary Schools.
Both schools value their partnership with the local community, which brings great benefits to the children. One of the most significant ways you can help in promoting this is to volunteer to be a governor on our governing board.
The role of school governor is a rewarding one and it will enable you to meet new people and to work as part of a team. You will gain new knowledge and skills and will be able to bring a valuable perspective to the work of the board.
Governors do not need to be parents, nor do they need to be education professionals. They just need to be individuals who have an interest in education, who want to give something back to their communities, and who are keen to see future generations thrive.
The governing body's main tasks are:
The role of a governor involves monitoring activity at both schools, through observational visits and document review, and attendance and participation at governing body meetings over the course of the school year. We are keen that our governors participate as much as they can in the life of both schools by supporting events such as performances, sports day, assemblies and much more - but we also realise that governors often have many other demands on their time. It is a demanding role, but is very fulfilling.
Governing bodies are more effective when they can draw on a range of skills, knowledge and perspectives – so diversity in membership is desirable. We feel sure there are members of our community who are prepared to take on this important role and to give their time and commitment to helping us to continue to improve the schools’ performance, and to play their part in ensuring our pupils fulfil their aspirations.
We would particularly like to hear from you if you have skills and knowledge in accounting and finance, or social media / marketing. But we welcome all applications and full training and support will be available to help you develop into the role. This includes in-house mentoring and support, and access to external governor training.
If you would like to find out more, a short video is available on the Hampshire Services for Schools website (hants.gov.uk/governors-volunteer) which provides information on the role of a governor. If you would like to learn more about our schools and what we do, please contact Derek Smith, our Chair of Governors, on 07881 501836 or by email at dereksmith@sdanalytica.com. If you simply want to apply, please contact either school office for an application form.
Please note, that for the protection of children, all governor appointments are subject to identity and DBS checks.
We very much look forward to speaking to you, and to receiving your application. Our deadline for applications is Wednesday 9 July.

Broughton is one of two village schools which make up the Federation of Broughton and West Tytherley. Under the Federation, each school remains separate but works together under a single Governing Body and an Executive Head Teacher - Mrs. Macey. Each school retains its unique character, and both Broughton and West Tytherley pride themselves on their caring, small-school approach where children are known and valued as individuals.
