Yesterday we had our grading for the School Games Mark award for Broughton and I’m delighted to let you know that we achieved Platinum.
This is quite some achievement. To get this, a school needs to have achieved Gold five times previously and satisfied a range of additional criteria which are audited before the award is given.
We are only the third school of 56 in our School Games Organisers’ area to be awarded this. It is outstanding that as a small school we have dedicated the resources and time to securing this. I’d like to thank Miss Morris and the whole team for providing such a fantastic offer for all. We are firm believers in the power of games and sports to teach the children many valuable lessons in life – about teamwork, about sportsmanship, and about how to respond to both success and failure. We hope your children enjoy this aspect of their education!
Hello, everyone and welcome back. I hope that you all had a restful, healthy, and happy holiday period.
We will be making sure that the new year kicks off with enthusiasm, with a range of exciting activities and learning for all the children planned for this term.
So, I’d like to start the new year with an important reminder, so that everyone has the chance to make the most of the opportunities available to them. The most fundamental starting point is that we need all the children to be in school as much as possible so that they can engage in all that we have to offer. We can’t wait to get going!
Children from Squirrels class and Otters Class came together to perform the nativity songs at the Broughton Christmas Market on Saturday 26th November. The children sang beautifully and were very brave in front of a rather large crowd! It was excellent practice for their Nativity performance of ‘The Bethlehem Bake off’ for parents and carers. Thank you to all the children who came, looking particularly festive in Christmas jumpers and hats- you were excellent! I'd also like to thank you the parents, and Miss Morris and Mrs Hudgell for supporting the village in this way.
This half term has flown by, and we have had so many highlights – from National Poetry Week, to exploring our village, to Harvest festival celebrations, to football and cross-country competitions and much more. Today, after our celebration assembly, parents and children were able to look at work done in two classroom museums: Otters class discovering the lives and experience of explorers, and Badgers class learning about Ancient Greek civilisation. We saw chronologies, clearly-written instructions, letter-writing, artwork, model building, mask-making, rocket building, and many examples of beautiful and effective writing. It was a great illustration of many of the skills your children are developing, and as I said in assembly, a clear demonstration of the positive attitude to learning that exists throughout the school. Great work, everyone! Let’s keep it up when we return after a well-deserved half term break.
Welcome back, everyone! And welcome to my new blog - where I will aim to give you a quick snapshot of what we are up to around the school, in addition to our regular newsletters.
Please don't think that the work stops during the holidays! This summer, we have been very busy preparing for the new academic year. The classrooms are all ready for the new term and we have been tidying up the school grounds and making sure everything is ready for your return. We are all eager to hear about what you have been up to over the long, hot summer.
The first term of the year is always an exciting one. The prospect of the school year stretches out before us with all its new experiences and possibilities. All the staff are excited about getting started and are looking forward to getting some learning under our belts and making the best possible start to the new school year.
