• A message from Mrs Macey

  Dear Parents,

   

  A huge thank you to everyone who has been working so hard this week to facilitate the remote learning. We have had some fantastic feedback from both parents and children about what is working well. I appreciate that we are still getting used to working in this way but I have been impressed by the maturity that the children have shown and also their resilience when facing the challenges. Please do let us know if you have any particular concerns or issues and we will endeavour to support you in the best way.

  The teachers and learning support assistants have adapted brilliantly to this new way of working, and I am incredibly proud of them too. They have been planning for , delivering to, and supporting all the children in their classes, whilst retaining their sunny smiles and positive outlooks. I won't say anymore or their heads will get too big!

  We are continually seeking to refine and improve our offer, and will be adding to the provision, as we are able. Badgers and Foxes have additional live lessons in French and some 1:1 teaching with Mrs Bottle. Please make sure that your children attend these, since Mrs Bottle has planned each session and is on line waiting for you!

  The virtual challenge- Race across Europe is now underway. You can walk, run, skate, scoot, cycle , swim or horse ride your distances. Please read the e-mail to see how to get involved.

  We have been notified that as of 25th January all teachers will be tested for COVID on a weekly basis- can't wait for that!! We will keep you up to date with how this goes, and who is the biggest baby about it all!

  We miss you all and I look forward to catching the next glimpse of the children on the screen.

• New cycling/walking/running challenge - Race Down Europe 2021

  Dear Parents,

   

  I hope that you are all well, I am so impressed with all the work that the children have been producing this week. Today I saw their faces on Google Classrooms too- it was so lovely!

  We are starting our new fitness challenge- The race down Europe.

   

  Please read the information below, for how to get involved....

   

  This time it is Broughton KS1 and West Tytherley KS1 racing against Broughton KS2 and West Tytherley KS2. Who will reach Gibraltar first? 

  Mrs Hudgell, Mrs Meron. Miss Morris and Mrs Martyn will be supporting KS1

  Miss Lee, Mrs Baker, Mrs Pearson and Miss Ayers will be supporting KS2

  I shall remain neutral, but Sherpa's miles will count in KS1 and Basil's KS2 - ( they do the same as each other!)

  A message from Mrs Devereux:

   

  The challenge will start on Monday 11^th January and finish on Sunday 7^th February, so a full 4 weeks of school,  weekend mileages will be added in on the Monday each week.

   

  It will be a race between KS1 Broughton and West Tytherley home schoolers and KS2 Broughton and West Tytherely  home schoolers, with each KS1 km counting for double that of a KS2.

   

  The key rules of the competition are as follows:

   

  1. Daily distances, all in KM please to be emailed to me at cathy@lionsinthecommunity.com before 7pm on the day of their activity.
  2. Activities can be anything from walking, cycling, scooting, running etc..
  3. Emails should contain a screenshot/photo evidence of kms covered, whether via Fitbit, Strava, iPhone or other fitness app.
  4. Emails need to include the name of the child and whether KS1 or KS2.
  5. There will be no daily km cap set for this challenge….the idea is after all to get as far as we can!
  6. As always, any interesting news of wildlife sightings, photos of activities or even holiday photos if you have actually visited any of the places that we pass through on previous holidays are always gratefully received.
  7. Parents are welcome to sign up to the Private Facebook Group, which is where the daily updates, map of progress, photos etc will appear . As ever this group can only be accessed by members I allow to join and can also only be viewed by them.

   

  This group can be joined by going to the Lions in the Community Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LITCsoccer/   from there you will see the option to join the group Broughton/West Tytherley  Race Down Europe 2021. If you ask to join, I will then add you.

• Reading Letter

  Dear Parents/Carers,

   

  As we are passionate about maintaining the progress that your children are making with their reading and encouraging reading for pleasure, we thought it would be helpful to point you in the direction of some reading activities and resources that will prove useful during remote learning.

   

  With children at home looking for new kinds of entertainment, lockdown seems like the perfect opportunity to get more children reading for pleasure. In school, we encourage the children to read wide range of both fiction and non-fiction and in a variety of ways e.g. books, magazines and newspapers and we would love you to do the same at home. The ideas below will hopefully provide you some guidance and support to help support your children’s reading whilst also making it a fun experience for all of you involved!

   

  • Use the ‘Oxford Owl’ reading site which is a free eBook library for 3 to 11-year-old and a hub of educational games and activities. This will allow children access to the reading schemes that they read at school and can be filtered by age group, text type, book band, phonics phase or reading level.
  • Listen to an Audiobook – Audible is available to all children for as long as schools are closed. Children everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories. All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. ‘Elevenses’ with David Walliams is also a personal favourite: https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/
  • BorrowBox is a great app that allows you to access books from your library during this lockdown. To sign up, follow the link below: https://www.borrowbox.com/
  • The Winter Reading Library Challenge has been launched! This year, the Public Libraries’ Winter Reading Challenge is all about getting cosy together to share the love of reading. It kicked off on Monday 11^th January and runs for six weeks, until the end of the spring half-term - by Saturday 27th February. The children need to read or listen to any four books to complete the challenge. This includes books they read or listen to for school, with family members and friends over Zoom, bedtime stories, non-fiction books, eBooks and audiobooks. Those who take part online will automatically be sent a certificate when they complete the challenge, but the most important thing is that your child enjoys some winter reading for pleasure.   • First News (an online newspaper for children) are offering free access to their weekly paper for a limited period of time. To access the latest issue, you just need to simply enter your email address using the link below: https://subscribe.firstnews.co.uk/free-downloadable-issue/
  • Make the most of books especially written for this time - there's no doubt that we find ourselves in the most unusual of times and in response, a small number of specially produced books have been created during this time for free reading online. ­The Book of Hopes in particular is a collection of short stories, poems and essays from famous children’s writers and illustrations. • Lockdown - January 2021

  Dear Parents,

   

  We are very sorry that we will not be welcoming all the children back on Wednesday as we had originally intended. In line with the National Lock Down we will be closed. I wanted to reassure you that on Wednesday virtual learning will be ready to take off and the teachers will be using Google Classroom as the platform. We will be in touch tomorrow with details and timings of how this will work and I know that both teachers and children will make the best of this situation.

   

  We will send out an e-mail to parents of children who may still attend school and we would be grateful if you could confirm if your child will be attending.

   

  The school will be open for children whose parents are keyworkers- please be aware that due to the severity of the situation at the moment we would advise that both care-givers need to be keyworkers (critical to the Covid response) and that if children can be cared for and access remote learning at home, this is the preferred option. Please e-mail school if you require a place for your child/ren.
