Poor Weather Arrangements
If the weather conditions make it necessary to close the school at short notice details will be posted on the school website (www.broughton.hants.sch.uk ) as early as possible to inform you. This decision would be made once a risk assessment of the school site is undertaken and local travel conditions known. Details will be posted on www.hants.gov.uk/education/schoolclosures.
The decision to close the school will rest with the Head teacher, based on information provided by the members of staff living closest to school who can survey the local conditions. The majority of staff travel in from Southampton, Winchester or Wiltshire, and hence their local conditions also have to be considered. If there are sufficient staff members to open the school, we will try our utmost to open – but if the condition of the site itself, the provision of key services (first aid, catering and utilities such as electricity or water) dictate, then we may have to close the school. To help with the decision making process, the option to close would be taken at the earliest opportunity to allow people make alternative arrangements.
Our decision may also be linked to the status of other schools in the area e.g. linked secondary schools, and weather forecasts. If school has to close during the day because of worsening weather conditions, all parents will be contacted, but staff will stay until the last child is collected and the HCC website would be updated accordingly.
If school is open we would expect pupils to attend – non-attendance requires a formal note and may be marked as unauthorised – however, the rural nature of the school means there may even be variation of conditions within our own catchment which prevents children from attending safely.
We took advantage of the sunshine and competed in the inter-house cross country competition one day earlier than advertised. Many put in excellent performances and the results were as follows:
1st place Steele
2nd place Fripp
3rd place Dowse
To mark the end of their time here at Broughton Primary School, the year 6 children had their leavers’ treat. It is always a day shrouded in mystery, with children not knowing their itinerary until we arrive at each destination. This year, they were treated to an Ace Ventura themed escape roomwin which the children admirably and showed great team work to solve all of the problems - it was the best escape room I’ve ever been to!
After a hearty refuelling at a world renowned restaurant, we then headed to New Forest Water Park, where all the children threw themselves, quite literally, into the inflatable aqua park on the lake. It was a fantastic day, if rather exhausting, and was a wonderful way to end year 6.
Bird club has been spoilt by the weather in recent weeks, and have taken to the outdoors to create some wonderful bird art using the natural materials they found.
We made birds, then nests.
Can you spot the barn owl?
It was a glorious, warm summer afternoon for Tri-Golf this year. There was a high standard of golf on display from all schools and the children performed with exemplary conduct throughout. The support of our Badgers Sports Leaders was essential in the smooth running of the event, and they probably worked harder than the actual competitors to keep each event running smoothly - you are a credit to the school!
Broughton was awarded second place, this year, with a strong performance in all six events. Well done to all!
It's time for the big sporting event that everyone's talking about - no, not the World Cup - Broughton Sports Day 2018!
We have a host of new events this year, designed and organised by our PE Leader, Miss. Morris, and have tied them to countries from the World cup as well as the UN Rights of a Child, led by our RRSA Leader, Mrs. Bottle.
Despite the drizzle, the children haven't complained, and have participated boldly to win points for their house.
Who will be victorious this year?
We love a tradition here at Broughton Primary School, and are not put off by any poor weather which comes our way. Due to meticulous planning, we managed to find the small window of sunshine on Wedsday 28th for our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Big thanks to FOBS for their egg-cellent and most generous provision of the eggs, and egg-specially to Mrs. Green who set up and ran the event.
As if that weren’t enough egg-citement, our annual Egg Rolling Egg-stravaganza took place in a different form this year, due to a saturated field. Instead, the inaugural Egg Curling Championship took place in the school hall, with children competing to roll their eggs nearest to rooster. No roosters were harmed during the event, though several eggs cracked under the pressure.
Our Egg-static Winners were as follows:
Squirrels - Hugo R
Otters - Cordie
Foxes - Jack
Badgers - Alice
Staff - Mrs. Cantelo
Champion of Champions - Jack
