    Broughton Primary School
School Lane, Broughton, Stockbridge, Hampshire. SO20 8AN

    Poor Weather Arrangements

If the weather conditions make it necessary to close the school at short notice details will posted on the school website (www.broughton.hants.sch.uk ) as early as possible to inform you. This decision would be made once a risk assessment of the school site is undertaken and local travel conditions known. Details will also be posted on www.hants.gov.uk/education/schoolclosures.

The decision to close the school will rest with the Head teacher, based on information provided by the members of staff living closest to school who can survey the local conditions. The majority of staff travel in from Southampton, Winchester or Wiltshire, and hence their local conditions also have to be considered.
If school has to close during the day because of worsening weather conditions, all parents will be contacted, but staff will stay until the last child is collected and the HCC website would be updated accordingly.

Fri 09 Feb 2018 Beth and Camilla
GIRLS INDOOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS!! On Tuesday 6th February some people from girl’s football went to play a tournament. They took 8 girls and the others stayed behind with Miss Morris. When we got there we played against Wallop. We lost which was a bad start but we came back ready for the second game. The second team were Lockerley. With help from Kitty we won. With an encouraging talk from Miss Lee (She is our coach- a very good one!) we won against West Tytherley.  This was our last game so we waited to find out what had happened. Guess what… we came first! We got gold medals and a certificate.

  • Attendance Update: Relating to Legal Intervention for Term Time Absence

Mon 11 Sep 2017 Mrs Lucy Macey

Update to parents regarding term-time absence, issuing of penalty notices and the HCC Code of Conduct in the spring term 2017

Term time absence: Final position following Isle of Wight Council v Platt decision in Supreme Court

    Updated June 2017

Further to previous communications, the Supreme Court has now delivered its judgement in relation to the Isle of Wight Council's appeal which sought clarification on what is meant by “fails to attend regularly” in the context of a prosecution for unauthorised non-attendance at school.

The Supreme Court said that “regular” means “in accordance with the rules published by the school” and rejected the view that regular meant “sufficiently frequently”. Full details of this judgement can be found on the Supreme Court website: www.supremecourt.uk.

This clarifies the position regarding term time absence and it is clear that schools can determine whether an absence is authorised or not. In coming to their decision schools need to abide by Hampshire County Council's Code of Conduct when issuing Penalty Notices. All schools, maintained and academies, should be implementing the Code of Conduct and warning parents of the likelihood of legal action if absence is not authorised. A copy of the Code of Conduct for legal intervention is :
