Sainsburys School Games – Gold Award!
We are delighted to announce that this year we have been awarded the gold standard for our sporting provision at Broughton School. There are many reasons that we achieved this: firstly, our sports leaders have organised a range of extra activities including running a club and writing termly sports reports. Secondly, we have participated in a wide range of sporting activities across the age groups and achieved excellent results in cluster and county competitions. Finally, we have been driven and organised by Miss Morris, assisted by the wider staff and Mrs Devereux to deliver excellent P.E provision. Well done staff and children!
The sun shone and our children did too! It was fantastic to see everyone trying so hard and how wonderful that so many parents and family members came to support. We would like to thank all the grown-ups who helped to organise the event. We are very lucky to have such supportive and committed friends of the school.
On Tuesday the children in year 4,5 and 6 took part in a careers day. We were very fortunate over 25 parents and friends of the school gave up their time to come and talk to the children about their jobs. The children had a brilliant day and were thoroughly enthused by the conversations that they had. We really feel that there are many benefits from children being better informed about the wealth of job opportunities that are open to them in the future and that days such as this help them to put the purpose of their education into greater perspective.
Badgers class trip to Kidzania, London allowed the children to undertake a variety of experiences in a scaled down city, as described below:
As in the real world, children perform "jobs" and are either paid for their work (as a fireman, doctor, police officer, journalist, shopkeeper, etc.) or pay to shop or to be entertained. The indoor theme park is a city built to scale for children, complete with buildings, paved streets, vehicles, a functioning economy, and recognisable destinations in the form of "establishments" sponsored and branded by leading multi-national and local brands.
Otters and Squirrels visited Southampton Medina Mosque. We believe this has greatly enhanced their learning in religious, social, moral, cultural and spiritual education.
The Egg Rolling Championship today surpassed all previous years in terms of excitement, competitive spirit and sneaky teacher tactics!
