The Badgers Class went on a fabulous multi activity week in sunny Weymouth. The week was a fantastic opportunity to build friendships, support each other and have a lot of fun!
The many activities that they participated in included: giant swing, trapeze, zip wire, raft building and orienteering. Take a look at the photographs to see how much fun they had.....
On Friday we went to the annual Andover Area tag rugby tournament with two teams, year 3/4 and year 5-6. We were split into three pools and the top two teams went into the cup, the middle two groups went into the plate and the bottom two went into the bowl.
The year 5/6 went into the cup having done really well in the pool stage. In our last match in the pool we were 1-2 down but Dom brought it back to 5-3 with a couple of amazing tries. We won three of our pool matches, drew one and lost one, this got us through to the cup. One of the best moments was an amazing team try; George was running down the wing but he got tagged and managed to offload to Archie who then also got tagged but Will got himself into a good position for Archie to pass to him and scored a fantastic try. We won the quarter finals but lost in the semi-finals. It was a fantastic day for Badgers and we all had great fun.
The year 3/4 team went into the plate having won three and lost three of the pool stage matches. Against Roman Way we scored a brilliant team try; Luke had the ball and got tagged but managed to pass to Aaron who also got tagged, Aaron managed to pass to Jake who could see he was about to be tagged so quickly passed to Sam W who scored a try! In the pool stage we beat Wherwell 6-0, Jake P scored four tries, Mackie scored one and Sam W scored one. The year 4 girls kept them from scoring anything with their super-fast tagging! We won the quarter finals and semi-finals of the plate but lost by one try in the final against Vigo. The day was brilliant and we really enjoyed supporting our teams when we weren’t playing.
A comment from Mrs Macey on behalf of the accompanying staff and parents:
We had a fantastic day on Friday and played some excellent rugby. The children’s attitude was exemplary, they displayed superb sportsmanship and supported each other throughout the tournament. It is a significant achievement for a smaller school like ourselves to have progressed as far as we did in a tournament against large town schools of 300+ pupils. We were all very proud of the children on the day.
Foxes (Year 3/4) and Badgers (Year 5/6) were invited to Lockerly CE Primary School to attend a presentation by successful Hampshire children's author Ali Sparkes. Ali entertained and engaged the children (and adults!) with the story of her road to success and communicated her absolute enthusiasm for writing - at one point Ali started creating a whole knew story from nothing but a cat, a rock and a balloon! - especially the ups and downs of rejection and eventual publication. The children's behaviour was excellent and they asked some really well thought out questions to find out even more from Ali. There are lots of Ali's books available to borrow in our school library, and for for further information on her work, please see her website at http://www.alisparkes.com.
Thank you so much to all the children who have bought and decorated a rhino box, they were all brilliant and I was very glad the judging task fell to Mrs Julie Smith.

Today we enjoyed out annual egg hunt, which is organised by FOBS. The children had great fun hunting for their name tags around the play ground and then collecting their chocolate eggs. We would like to thank George and Poppy's mum for organising the hunt and FOBS for donating the eggs.
Egg rolling today surpassed all previous years in terms of excitement, competitive spirit and sneaky teacher tactics!

Ks2 winner - Mr Jake Payne
Staff winner - Miss N. Lake (also Champion of Champions 2016)
