Giving isn’t about presents and money. Joining in with social and community life has attracted a lot of attention in the field of wellbeing research. Individuals who report a greater interest in helping others are more likely to rate themselves as happy. Research into actions for promoting happiness has shown that committing an act of kindness once a week over a six-week period is associated with an increase in wellbeing.

Some ways you could do this in the community are:
- Supporting fundraising activities or events
- Volunteering with a charity
- Helping a friend or neighbour
Ways you could achieve this through school:
- Joining the FOBS
- Volunteering to support events such as the Summer Fete
- Volunteering in school or supporting school trips
- Random acts of kindness like holding the door for someone, allowing someone to go ahead of you in the queue
- Paying someone a compliment or praising someone
