Roles in Year Six
As a rights-respecting school, we decided to promote equity for all pupils in year six by sharing responsibilities amongst all the children. This resulted in a division of roles and the development of a rota to ensure that all children would have the opportunity to fulfil the designated leading responsibilities: merit counting, leading celebration assemblies, organising the board of brilliance and welcoming parents into assemblies. The children also take turns to be responsible to organise and run house events.
Peer Mediation
Training is offered to children in Badgers' class in peer mediation. For details of this role please look at the separate page (Young Peacemakers) on this website.
School Council
The school council comprises of elected individuals from each year group. They regularly meet with Miss Ayers to express their views, raise concerns and suggest changes to school life.
Meet our school council representatives for 2025:
A word from our school councillors:
'Hello. My name is Freddie and I am proud to be a school councillor. My favourite subject is DT. I love sports and play rugby at Winchester, and football and cricket for Broughton Sports Club. Outside of school, I go to Cubs where we go to camp and learn fun skills. I am a fun and energetic person and I can't wait to help Broughton School.
At the moment, we are focussing on the great outdoors! Our first few meetings have focussed on our priorities for this half term. We completed a pupil voice survey with our classes to ask them what playground equipment they would like to see used at breaks and lunches. From this, the children have expressed a keen interest in getting a children's football pump (to give them the responsibility of maintaining their own equipment), a long skipping rope (for group skipping activities), ping pong storage box (to keep everything organised) and hula hoops (to replace the existing and slightly worn ones). The school councillors will now work on a pitch to present to Mrs Macey, outlining their aims and how they will potentially fundraise for these. In our meetings, we have also discussed upcoming charity days which we intend to fundraise for: Children in Need, Comic Relief and Remembrance Day.
