Dear Parents
We are writing to you following the many queries received from parents today regarding the opening of both schools tomorrow in response to the weather warnings issued for Hampshire.
As the local authority states, the decision to close a school is for local management and made by the Headteacher based on conditions at the school and the health and safety of staff and pupils.
We will be open tomorrow unless we receive notification from the Local Authority recommending closure or if the forecast significantly changes overnight.
However, we fully appreciate the concerns from many families regarding their journeys to and from school tomorrow.
If parents deem it too dangerous to travel tomorrow we fully support this decision and these absences will be authorised.
There will be resources for home learning on Google Classrooms.
We will of course assess the school site and make it as safe as possible, although the direction and strength of the forecast winds is difficult to predict. The children who do attend will be kept indoors throughout the day.
We are sorry that we are unable to clarify the situation further but are sure you appreciate the difficulties facing us all during a time of such extreme and unusual weather conditions.
We would like to thank all of our parents and carers for their understanding at this challenging time and say how much we appreciate the messages of support we have received for the very difficult decisions we are making.
Yours sincerely
Lucy Macey

Advice to All Parents - warn and inform
Please note that this is the letter that we have been given by the DFE and all the advice contained comes from them. If you have been given conflicting advice or are unable to follow this (e.g. re LFD testing) please continue as you have been. We do understand that it can be difficult to get hold of tests at present.
Dear Parents,
We have been advised that there has been confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the school.
We appreciate that you may find this concerning so we are continuing to monitor the situation and are providing the following advice. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.
What are we already doing?
When relevant, students and staff who have tested positive are isolating. The children who are identified as contacts of the confirmed cases will have guidance from NHS Test and Trace.
Those aged five and above will be advised to take daily LFD tests before attending school for a period of 7 days. Outbreak control measures are also in place within the school and being kept under review.
If your child is well
The school remains open. If your child remains well, they can continue to attend school as normal. We will keep this under review.
In addition to daily LFD testing for close contacts, we encourage household members aged 11 and over to continue with twice weekly LFD testing to help identify cases promptly.
If you think your child is a close contact but has not been contacted directly by NHS Test and Trace, then we would advise they undertake daily LFD tests for a period of 7 days. This advice applies to children aged 5 and over. Whilst daily testing for 7 days is your choice, it is strongly encouraged as it helps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in your community. (LFD tests are available via community testing sites, local pharmacies or you can order online for home delivery).
If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19 or tests positive for COVID-19
If your child develops symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), they should get a PCR test (https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or call 119) and remain at home at least until the result is known and they are fever free (without medication) for at least 24 hours.
People who test positive for COVID-19 should self-isolate at home until they are well (48 hours fever free) and either:
Note: Lingering coughs and changes to smell/taste are not a sign of ongoing infectiousness, so children can return to school if they have ended their self-isolation period (see above).
If your child does not have symptoms, count the day they took the test as day 0. If they subsequently develop symptoms, they will need to restart their isolation period using the day symptoms developed as day 0.
You can seek advice on COVID-19 symptoms from the nhs.uk website. If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111
Instructions for people who live in the same household as someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or is symptomatic and awaiting a test result
NHS Test and Trace will contact you to check whether you are legally required to self-isolate. If you are not legally required to self-isolate, you will be provided with advice on testing, advised to take extra caution, and given guidance on preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Those who are clinically extremely vulnerable should be supported to minimise their contact with other people in the household during this period, regardless of whether others have symptoms or not.
You are not required to self-isolate if any of the following apply:
Fully vaccinated means that you have been vaccinated with an MHRA approved COVID-19 vaccine in the UK, and at least 14 days have passed since you received the recommended doses of that vaccine (note this is currently under review and may be updated to include a booster dose in due course).
In line with national guidance for households with Covid-19 infection, household and other close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 should undertake daily LFD testing for a period of 7 days or for 10 days from their last contact with the positive case (whichever is first). This is recommended for all close contacts aged 5 and over who are not required to isolate. (LFD tests are available via community testing sites, local pharmacies or you can order online for home delivery).
You are required to self-isolate if you’re aged over 18 years and 6 months and if any of the following apply:
Household members who need to self-isolate as close contacts should not go to work, school or public areas, and exercise should be taken within the home. You should ask friends or family if you require help with buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, or walking a dog. Alternatively, you can order your shopping online and medication by phone or online. Please read the stay at home guidance which provides information on this.
Household members staying at home for 10 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community.
You could be fined if you do not self-isolate following a notification by NHS Test and Trace. You may be entitled to a one-off payment of £500 through the NHS Test and Trace Support Payment scheme if you are required to stay at home and self-isolate, or you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate.
How to reduce spread of COVID-19 as a household contact who is not required to self-isolate
Even if you are vaccinated, you can still be infected with COVID-19 and pass it on to others. If you are identified as a contact of someone with COVID-19 but you are not required to self-isolate, you can help protect others by following the guidance on how to stay safe and help prevent the spread.
To reduce the spread of COVID-19 in your community:
You should follow this advice for at least 10 days.
If you are a health or social care worker or student undertaking a work placement who has been identified as a household contact and are exempt from self-isolation, there is additional guidance available that you should follow to reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19 in these settings.
If you develop symptoms at any time, even if these are mild, self-isolate immediately, arrange to have a COVID-19 PCR test and follow the guidance for people with COVID-19 symptoms.
For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.
How to stop coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading
There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with coronavirus (COVID-19):

Dear Parents,
Sadly due to the number of COVID cases in school (please see attached letter) we are in now in the position where we need to minimise contact between groups and avoid large gatherings of children and parents. Please see below for details:
Daily routine
Only children to enter school side gate in the morning. Please wait for your children at the front of school at the end of the day. Squirrels parents please use font entrance again in the morning and afternoon.
Children will play in class groups for this week.
Lunches to continue in classrooms including Christmas dinner.
Christmas arrangements
We will not be holding the Carol Service or the End of Term Celebration Assembly.
We would be grateful if you can read all the communication carefully and we will keep you updated with any advice from the DfE and UKHSA.
Kind Regards
Lucy Macey
Dear Parents/Carers,
Reading is a passport to the world and the benefits of reading open children up to ideas, experiences, places and times they might never otherwise experience in real life. Every child deserves the chance to become a reader and research shows that children who enjoy reading achieve well right across the curriculum.
With this in mind, a few events have been organised this half term to kick off the academic year with reading at the forefront of our learning and we hope you will support us in promoting the joy of reading:
We hope that one or more of the events above takes your child’s interest. Developing a love of reading is a priority for us at Broughton Primary School and installing this passion is our aim from when children first join us in Squirrels, all the way through to their last moments with us in Badgers.
Happy reading!
Miss Ayers

Important Considerations
Please be aware that we are trying very hard to get back to “normal” and we want to re-introduce all the usual activities and parental contact as soon as possible. As ever, after a period where we have been apart we want to minimise the risks that the start of a new term can bring. Please help us in the following ways:
Kind regards

Dear Parents,
Following the recent Government announcements and guidance from Hampshire County Council we are now able to confirm the arrangements for the end of term.
Sports Day will take place, with the children staying in their classes, however, we will not be able to host parents, this year.
We will record the school production for all Badgers Class parents, and give everyone a copy.
The Leavers assembly will take place outside, with Year 6 parents in attendance ( max 2 per family)
The children will also have an end of term assembly, outside, where we will award cups. We will not be able to host parents at this event.
We have made these arrangements at a time where COVID cases are still on the increase and we need to continue to safeguard all children, families and staff. I know that these events are very popular with parents, however, we need to put these protective measures in place. Our cluster schools in the state sector are also operating in this way.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to speak to me
Kind regards
Lucy Macey
Return to School – Spring Term 2021 – Monday 8th March
Please read the following information carefully and keep it safe for reference.
The Rationale of welcoming all children back to school in March
Prevention:
Response to any Infection:
1. Engage with NHS Test & Trace process
2. Manage confirmed cases of COVID-19 amongst the school community

Dear Parents,
We are looking forward to welcoming all of the children back to school on Monday 8th March. The arrangements remain predominately the same as they did in September, with a few additions according to guidance.
Practical Arrangements
Start of the day
We will be welcoming back all children from Years R to 6 on Monday 8th March. All the children will need to be in school for registration by 8.50 a.m., in order to start lessons at 9 a.m.
We do not intend to stagger the start times since this can cause problems when there are siblings in different classes. However, we will ask the children to enter the building in the following places:
Squirrels – up the main drive and through Squirrels side gate
Otters – through side gate and into their classroom via the Otters outside area.
Foxes – through the side gate and into their classroom via the ‘normal’ entrance.
Badgers – up the main drive and through the fire doors.
The children will need to wash their hands before coming into school. We would ask that parents and children social distance as they wash hands and enter the building. Please can we ask that only one person drops off per family and that you do not linger and talk in the carparks.
We ask that the adult dropping off wears a mask.
We cannot admit adults to the site at the present time without a prior appointment. If you need to speak to a member of staff, please phone or email the office and we will arrange a suitable time.
Lunchtime
The full menu will be on offer form the kitchen (the options will change after Easter) we start on week 1 or the children are welcome to bring packed lunch from home. The fruit scheme will continue for children in Year 1 and Year 2. Children in Foxes and Badgers should bring in their own healthy snack. The tuck shop will not be open.

Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.

Children in Otters class will leave at 3.15pm through the side gate.
Children in Foxes class will leave at 3.30pm through the side gate.

Communication to School
Please direct all communications through the school office and not directly to the teacher’s emails. We will ensure that all messages are delivered as they were pre lockdown. Thank you for your co-operation with this.
Important Considerations
We know that children will have different reactions regarding the return to school and that this may be a time of further uncertainty for them. If you have any concerns at all and would like to ask advise, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will make sure that we support you effectively. Please be assured that the welfare of your child(ren) is at the forefront of everything that we do here and we will make sure that this transition is a positive experience.
All the staff who work in school test twice a week using the COVID-19 self-test kit. Please do not send your children to school if they or anyone in the family/support bubbles is unwell. We would ask that you remain cautious, and establish the nature of the illness before sending them to school and risking the health and wellbeing wider school community.
Here at Broughton we are really proud of the way that our whole school community works together sensibly and sensitively to support each other. I have absolutely no doubt that this re-opening to all families will be a happy and joyful time and that as usual, Broughton Primary School will be filled with happy smiling faces from both staff and pupils.
Kind regards
Lucy Macey – Headteacher.
