Cluster Cross Country at Wallop School

Tuesday 8th October

Report by Harrison Walls

On Tuesday the juniors in the school took part in the cluster cross country competition against Wallop, Wherwell, Kings Somborne, Lockerley and West Tytherley. It was a 1000 metre (1km) course around Wallop’s field, through their meadow and finally through the woods. The lowest score would win (1st place earns 1 point etc).

There were races for year 5/6 boys and girls split into elite and intermediate. Every runner had different tactics – for example, Rory stayed at the back until the final sprint to the end, Megan used the same tactics. Harrison and Connor stayed at the front throughout to ensure a high placing. William, Harrison and Connor won their heats, Kayleigh and Rory came second, Megan 3rd and Amy and Connie 4th in their heats.

Overall the Broughton team with 18 points beat the Wallop team who came second but with quite a jump in the points.

Finally there was a fun run for Years 3/4 – they ran a slightly shorter course (800 metres). Our team did exceptionally well with George, Luke and Freddie racing home very quickly. We clearly have some good younger runners coming along. We are investigating the next competition level that we can enter our teams in.
